Mission Beach QLD

Thursday 23rd of May

We left Rollingstone and continued north up the Bruce Hwy. Stopping at Cardwell to get a photo of the Big Crab and then at Tully for a photo of the Big Gumboot for our All Things Big Album.

While taking photos at the Big Gumboot a beautiful blue butterfly was flying around us

We then turned right of the highway just after Tully and headed to Mission Beach. We weren't sure where we were staying there it was between the Mission beach campground or the Big 4 at South Mission Beach. After much discussion we settled on the Big 4 and booked in on a powered site for 3 nights. Now this caravan park is only small and built for littler vans under 22ft but they do have 6 big sites at the back and ours even had water views

The park has one of the the best camp kitchens we have seen, a pool with waterside plus a toddlers pool and a playground.

While we were having a look around the park J was greeted by the boys from one of the travelling families we met in Charter Towers. He spent the afternoon while A slept playing with Finn and Callum on the playground and in the pool. He was even brave enough to go down the waterslide with a bit of encouragement from the boys.

Friday 24th of May
Today we said goodbye once again to Finn and Callum as they headed off to Cairns but we would see them again as they had booked into the Big 4 where we were also going to be staying from Monday. While eating a late breakfast a cassowary came through the park eager to get food and willing to steal it out of your hands. He or she ventured under many caravan awnings and even into tents.

We then had a look around the town of Misson Beach it wasn't what I expected to be like. I expected it to be very commercial with apartments / resorts galore but was pleased to see only a handful of shops and mainly holiday homes with only one resort and a Woolworths. While there we continued with our all things Big photos and took a photo of the Big Cassowary.

The afternoon was spent meeting and playing with a travelling family from the South Coast of NSW who I had been following prior to our departure. They are staying in Mission Beach while working.
The kids had a ball playing on the beach and swimming in the stinger nets. It was so good to see the children play so well together given the age differences (J 4, Lilly 7 and Logan 9)

Saturday 24th May

Once again the cassowary visited for breakfast. We had a relaxing morning walking the beach then playing on the playground and J in the pool with some more friends he had made.

After lunch J played with the Lilly and Logan again building paper planes then back down at the beach with the boggie boards in the stinger nets.

The moon over dunk island on the Saturday night.

Next stop......Paronella Park
