Seven Mile Beach Gerroa NSW

We moved further up the South Coast of NSW by 4 1/2 hrs to a lovely spot just across from Seven Mile Beach. We stayed at the Discovery Gerroa holiday park nestled right on the Crooked River at Gerroa.

Only a small park in terms of camping facilities with limited sites as its mainly permanent holiday residents and as it was the weekend all the powered sites were booked out so we were allocated a unpowered site UP1 which had access to power and in our opinion the best site for our van as it was nice and large and across from the camp kitchen. The park had a stay for 4 nights and pay for 3 nights which we took advantage of costing us $111 for the 4 nights. ( A was free as was under 4). Amenities were very clean and accessed by a key and even had a children's bathroom. They are a little walk up from the camping sites probably only 100m but a dump site is located at just near the camp kitchen. The Park has a jumping pillow, playground and a pool but were up the top end of the park away from the camping sites so we didn't really use them much. Beach access was via a code gate which lead to the bridge and then a short walkway to the beach.

Saturday was very busy down at the beach with near prefect weather and as we arrived mid afternoon we decided to go for a drive around. Residents of Gerroa have some amazing views back to seven mile beach.

Sunday we went into Kiama about 15 minutes north. They had a seaside market on which had a variety of stalls on. While in Kiama we went and had a look at the Big and little blowholes and did some grocery shopping before heading back to the park for A's afternoon sleep.

Monday was spent checking out Wollongong and the grand pacific drive all the way to Bald hills headland which included a drive over Sea Cliffs bridge. We were lucky enough to be able to watch a para gilder and hand gilder souring off the headland as we arrived.

Tuesday we heading south to Berry and Nowra and did some shopping at Bunnings then headed out for a look to Jervis Bay and the Booderee National Park and having lunch at Huskisson but i left my camera at home :(

Wednesday morning we packed up and head to Sydney the long way via Picton and the M5 / M7 / M2 but with a lot less stress on those in the car.

Pambula NSW

Next stop was only an hour and a half up the Princess hwy from Mallacoota to Pambula where we stayed at the Big 4 Discovery at Pambula Beach for 9 nights.

We are a regular here for our holidays as it provides the boys with so much fun especially with the Kids club they have all year round from 10-12pm on weekdays. So between that, the jumping pillow, the indoor and outdoor pools, the playground and the beach we rarely left the park. We blew the budget and booked an ensuite site so A could get used to having showers rather than baths. One bonus here is not only do you have a shower loo and hand basin but next door you have a lockable storage room that can accomdate bikes fishing gear etc. However in saying all of that we would of just been better off booking a normal site as the park has a childrens bathroom which we were unware of previously.

We spent our time here just relaxing and getting into holiday mode, having breakfast by the lake at Merimbula and just enjoying family time. As we were staying here for a while we set up our Australian Wide Annexe which we had made not only weeks prior to our trip. The great thing about this annexe is  its not only the canvas on the outside of the windows that you can roll up but the fly screen as well.

We did do a few day trips up to the Bega Cheese factory for morning tea then up to a fantastic play ground at Tathra and had fish and chips on the beach for lunch.

We also visited Eden and to the Killer Whale museum the Merimbula EAT festival along the fishpen walk way where we sampled some of the delights local chefs had on offer.

First stop Mallacoota

12 months ago we set out a leaving date of the 2nd of March 2013 however we all know best laid plans never go to order and due to medical appointments as A has 3 congential heart defects which will require surgery in the near future, we needed to get the "A OK" to embark on such an adventure, so we didnt set off till the 5th. We decided to stop at Mallacoota  and stay at the Forshore holiday park. (camps 7, VIC 3). Lovely park that has 650 sites, some are waterfront with your own mooring or jetty. We had a powered site number 640 up on the hill away from the water as requested but close to the very clean amenties and a a great playground. This park is all for family holidays and dont charge for children under 5 yo so we paid $52 for the 2 nights. Lovely spacious park even though it was busy the sites are big, pets are welcome and the park offers free WI FI. Parked behind us was another family just starting thier travels around australia for 12 months with 3  young boys which J had a fantastic time playing with. A park that we will come back to for sure in the future, maybe when the boys are older and can fish their hearts out not only on the lake but out on the beach

About Us

So you have probably worked out already that there is 4 of us, myself Shandelle, my husband Rob and our 2 little boys J (4 1/2yo) and A (2yo). Orginally we are from South Gippsland in Victoria but are travelling of the east coast Australia for 6 months.

The decision to travel was thought up 4 years ago when we met another family travelling Australia for 12 months while holidaying with our old caravan. So the planning began.  We had always planned for 2 children and when A arrived we decided it would be a prefect opportunity to travel while both boys were still young and not having to comitt to school work. We live on a farm so we needed to decrease stock numbers (both cattle and horses) and find some one to house sit our farm while we are away. J will also return to 4yo kinder on our arrival home to begin term 4 which will give him the transition into school.

Our Caravan

After spending hours reaserching and inspecting family vans at many of the travel and camping shows we settled on a a 24ft 2010 Paramount Classic Utlity Duet. The boys have bunks at one end and our bed folds out the front. The middle is the kitchen and a large living area. Behind the boys bunks and opening to the outside is a large storage boot which stores our washing machine, axenne walls, bikes on a bike rack, and the many other extras need with travelling with a family. We decided to do away with the ensuite as we already had a porta pottie (we did have a custom made cupboard to hide it away in), and have since bought a shower pop up tent and a companion aqua cube logic 111 for when we are free camping
